AROMATIC PLANTS AND ESSENTIAL OILS USED DURING LABOR WITH NOCICEPTIVE AND ANXIOLYTIC POTENTIAL

Resumo

Aromatherapy is a practice applied in different sectors such as post-operative care, pain treatment and anxiety reduction. However, in Brazil, the legislation allows the use of aromatherapy by nurses since 2018, but the use of essential oils during labor is not regulated. The aim of the study was to analyze the records of the benefits of using aromatherapy during labor and the chemical components of aromatic plants that contribute to the reducing pain, duration of contractions, anxiety and stress effects resulting from childbirth. The integrative review carried out in the Scopus, MEDLINE / PubMed and Science Direct databases specified between 2010 and 2020, in Portuguese, English and Spanish. The PICo methodology (Population, Interest and Context) was used to construct the research question and select controlled and uncontrolled descriptors, which were combined with the Boolean operators "AND", "OR" and "NOT". 17 articles were selected using aromatherapy during labor, individually or in conjunction with other therapies. The most used essential oil was Lavandula officinalis (53%), and the effects were related to the decrease in the pain of contractions and childbirth, followed by Rosa x damascena oil (23.5%), although the effect of the plant is more related to the reduction in the parturient’s anxiety and stress. Aromatherapy acts both on the physiological aspects of women in labor and on their subjectivity. Chemical evidence supports the relationship between the major compounds present in the essential oils of the aromatic plants used in the study and the beneficial effects of aromatherapy in labor.

Kamila Martins da Cruz é graduada em  enfermagem. Trabalhou na coordenação e docência de cursos técnicos de enfermagem (Instituto Mato-grossense de Capacitação, SENAC), foi enfermeira do Hospital de Câncer de Barretos, coordenadora da unidade móvel de prevenção do câncer de mama e colo de útero, responsável pela comunicação corporativa, planejamento, metas e estratégias. Em 2015 cursou residência em Enfermagem Obstetrica pela UFMS, no mesmo período se especializou em Docência do ensino superior. Mestre pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em meio ambiente e desenvolvimento regional daUniversidade Anhanguera Uniderp –Campo Grande, MS. 

Rosemary Matias, Universidade Anhanguera-Uniderp, Campo Grande, MS, Brasil

Graduação em Licenciatura Plena em Química pela Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul e mestrado e doutorado em Química pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá-UEM. É Professor adjunto I da Universidade Uniderp. Tem experiência na área de Produtos Naturais, atuando nos seguintes temas: Isolamento e identificação de constituintes químicos de plantas e monitorado por testes de atividade biológica: antibacteriana, antifúngica, antioxidante, anti-inflamatória, cicatrização, inseticida e alelopatia. Na Pós-Graduação atua também na área de química ambiental e de saúde.

Silvia Cristina Heredia-Vieira, Universidade Anhanguera-Uniderp, Campo Grande, MS, Brasil

É professora da Universidade Anhanguera-Uniderp de Campo Grande-MS e da UNIC de Cuiabá-MT. É coordenadora do GTT de Pesquisa Clínica do CRF/MS e faz parte do Banco de Avaliadores do BASis - INEP. É graduada em Farmácia pela Universidade do Desenvolvimento do Estado e da Região do Pantanal (UNIDERP), localizada em Campo Grande-MS (2007). É mestre em Ciências Farmacêuticas, com ênfase em produtos naturais biologicamente ativos, pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá-UEM (2010). É doutora em Ciências Farmacêuticas pela UNESP de Araraquara-SP (2014), com ênfase em fármacos e medicamentos. Fez doutorado sanduíche na Universidad de Cádiz, na Espanha, em 2013.

Carla Letícia Gediel Rivero-Wendt, Universidade Anhanguera-Uniderp, Campo Grande, MS, Brasil

Possui graduação em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Federal do Ceará, mestrado e doutorado pela Universidade de Brasília. É professora da Universidade Anhanguera Uniderp. Tem experiencia na área da Genética Toxicológica, atuando com monitoramento ambiental, avaliação da toxicidade de produtos naturais e químicas em modelos in vivo. No curso de Pós-graduação atua na área da Ecotoxicologia e Toxicologia.
